Summer lovin’ movies

Is it me or does every movie lately star Michael Cera or some other awkward cutie that teens—and maybe a few of us non-teens—love to watch struggling through high school or navigating first love? So, yeah, I kind of want to see Paper Hearts, a sweet-looking movie about a girl who doesn’t believe in love and the boy (Cera) who likes her. And then I saw the ad blitz for (500) Days of Summer, which, lo and behold, is also a movie about a girl who doesn’t believe in love and the boy (the kid from 3rd Rock from the Sun) who likes her. Hello drive-in double feature.

  1. A quick trip to the Internet Movie Database reveals that “Paper Heart” stars not only Michael Cera (whom I love, even though he plays the same character in every movie) but also Paul Rust of “I Love You, Beth Cooper,” Seth Rogen, Charlene Yi (a.k.a. that funny high girl from “Knocked Up”) and Demetri Martin. With a cast like this, how bad can it be?

  3. I’ve recently been on a huge Michael Cera / Seth Rogan kick (local blockbuster person pointed out that I had rented over 20 films in 2 weeks… way to point out how I have no life lately Blockbuster person… thanks!) and am actually really looking forward to Paper Hearts. It looks sickly sweet but that’s exactly why I want to see it. I’d much rather watch a mushy movie where two people are falling in love than a horribly depressing break up movie where you spend 2 hours watching peoples lives unravel…which seemed to be more popular a few years back.
